Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I join FSBC?
The Freshman Sophomore Business Club is the only business club specifically geared towards the interests and issues of first- and second-year intended business majors.

What makes FSBC different from other business clubs on campus?
FSBC is the only business organization at UC Berkeley that caters solely to the needs of freshmen and sophomores interested in professional development.
Workshops, socials, and networking experiences are planned with these students' qualifications and skills in mind.
Because of this, FSBC is the premier contact for other clubs that want younger students to be involved in their activities. FSBC has a unique atmosphere of comradery and provides priceless experiences to first- and second-year students.

What can FSBC do for me?
FSBC offers a wide variety of services for its members. Business-related activites include workshops and presentations on applying to Haas, job interview skills, and business ethics. Course advising specially tailored to freshmen and sophomores is available each semester. Mixers, seminars, panels, and social activites allow you the opportunity to network, learn more about other organizations, and have fun with fellow students!

What is the mentorship program?
The Mentorship Program is a system which provides support to participating freshmen, who receive help with the transition from high school to college life, tips about which classes to take and pre-requisite guidelines, and intended-business major mentorship. The sophomores' program includes preparation for applying to the Haas School of Business. All mentees will be paired up with an experienced sophomore and sophomore members will receive personalized help and advice on applications from our Haas-admitted alumni base.

How can I become a member?
Come to any activity or talk to any cabinet member for a membership application. Applications are now also available for download online here.

What is the difference between just being a member and being on a committee?
Being a member means having access to exclusive club events on top of the regularly-held professional events. A committee member gets involved in the planning and works closely with committee heads, directors, and the Executive committee. Being on a committee gives the member a dynamic teamwork and leadership experience. It also offers an opportunity for future higher leadership positions.

Are FSBC members only business majors?
No. FSBC members are a diverse group of individuals with an interest in professional development. All our events are tailored to helping members understand general business practices. For example, we have programs that help students with their taxes and getting involved in investing.

As a member, how much of my time will I have to commit to FSBC?
The amount of time and effort you put in is entirely at your discretion. While we do encourage active participation, club involvement is directly reflective of the amount of initiative and dedication each member is willing to contribute. As FSBC is a tight-knit organization, we are aware of active club members, and consider them when filling future leadership positions.
